Both Bavaria and Quebec are among the world’s most renowned and well-established regions in the field of aerospace technologies. With their numerous research and educational institutions, they make an important contribution on both domestic and international levels.

On the Bavarian side, the State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (StMWi) provides targeted support for research and development projects by Bavarian companies, universities and research institutions that develop particularly innovative aerospace and aviation applications. To meet the constantly changing challenges of the aerospace sector, the StMWi provides a range of thematic funding programs of economic and social importance and supports companies with three research programs specifically adapted to the respective sector: the Bavarian Aviation Research Program (LuFo-Bayern), the Bavarian Space Research Program (RaFo-Bayern), and the Bavarian Air Mobility Research Program (AirMobility-Bayern). As for Quebec, the government announced in February 2022 its Horizon 2026 aerospace strategy (SQA), which provides financial support to facilitate the integration of Quebec SMEs into large-scale projects led by international networks. The Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace in Quebec (CRIAQ), wishes to support these international collaborations between different partners.

This open call for proposals is divided into two parts, depending on the level of maturity of the project, either the section “Assembly and partnership”: Preparation and assembly of international partnership of SMEs, or the section “SME Demonstrator in International Collaboration”: research, development, and demonstration in bilateral (or multilateral) collaboration. The objective of this call is to encourage international or non-Quebec collaborations between different partners, to enable them to maintain or increase their competitiveness.

The project team must be composed of at least one Quebec SME with internal R&D or production activities in Quebec, and a Quebec College centre for technology transfer (CCTT) or a Quebec university or public research centre (CRP), as well as a company and/or research organization in the country of collaboration.
